Shell Luxury Camp

The Camp

We built Shell to be the place we kept trying to find

Small enough to feel private, comfortable enough to stay a week, and quiet enough that the coast is the loudest thing you hear.

The warm interior of a canvas suite

Shell began with a stretch of leased dune we'd walked for years and a stubborn idea: that you shouldn't have to choose between being in the landscape and being comfortable in it.

So we kept the footprint small — eight suites, spaced far enough apart that you rarely see your neighbour — and put the care into the things you actually touch. Real beds. Hot water from the spring. A stove that draws properly. Canvas that stays warm when the wind comes up.

Everything else, we left to the reserve. It has been doing this far longer than we have.

How we tread here

Light on the land

Suites sit on raised timber platforms, not foundations. Solar carries most of our power, and grey water is filtered back through the dune plants.

Of the coast

We cook and build with what's near — local farms, coastal fish, timber from managed forest up the road. It tastes better and it travels less.

Part of the reserve

A share of every stay goes to the trust that protects the dunes and wetland. Our guests are, quietly, its patrons.

Finding us

By car

Roughly two and a half hours from the city along the coast road. The last stretch is gravel; any car manages it. Park at the trailhead and we'll carry your bags in.

By rail & transfer

Take the coastal line to Harbour Town; we'll collect you from the station by arrangement. Let us know your train when you book.

Arriving

Check-in from 3pm, out by 11am. Come earlier if you like — the fire's usually going and there's always coffee.
