The reserve, month by month
Every season has its own reason to come. A quick guide to what the coastal reserve is doing through the year.
By Priya, camp naturalist
People ask us when the best time to visit is, and the honest answer is that the reserve is never doing nothing. Here is what changes as the year turns.
Spring
The dune grass greens and the migratory birds return to the wetland at the reserve's edge. Mornings are cool and still — the best paddling of the year, before the afternoon wind builds. This is when the walking trails are at their softest and greenest.
Summer
Long, warm evenings and the shortest walk-to-swim of the year. Dinners run late around the fire because nobody wants to leave the deck. Book early; these are our busiest weeks.
Autumn
Our quiet favourite. The light goes gold, the crowds thin, and the water holds its warmth into the season. Clear nights make for the best stargazing — the sky here has no city in it.
Winter
Wild and beautiful. Storms roll through and the suites are at their most welcoming — stove lit, wool throws out, the sea loud beyond the glass. There is nothing quite like reading through a squall from a warmed tub.
Whenever you come, we'll tell you honestly what the reserve is doing that week. Just ask.
